“Pure Perfection”
“I have seen an end of all perfection: but thy commandment is exceeding broad.” Psalm 119:96
I used to think that our church building was white. I was convinced that the siding was white, the steeple was white, and even the shades on the windows were white. Not only the color white, but the brightest shade. To look at our building when the evening sun was setting was blinding. One day, we were greeted in the morning by snow and our building no longer looked white! It had a pale shade of ivory. Those were the unarguable white, failed in comparison to what I once thought was the brightest white!
The Psalmist testifies that he also had arrived at the same conclusion. All that surrounded him displayed a form of attraction and promised his heart pleasure but was only pretending. The places looked entertaining, the people looked excited, and the program looked enjoyable. How could he know the difference between fact and fiction?
There is one test that reveals perfection, and that, of course, is the Scriptures—God’s Word. How well does the object measure up when placed beside God’s Word with real goodness? The product will convince. Nothing short of a comparison with God’s Word is a certain behavior godly? All they need to get an accurate answer is to lay it beside God’s Word and see how it holds up.
True perfection has a way of exposing the impurities of all its rivals. The Holy Bible is the only perfect object we may ever hold in our hands. —E.B.
